The Glengarry Pioneer Museum includes several heritage buildings representing the rich history of Glengarry County. School tours can be customized to fit your schedule and number of children. We will create a program for 15 to 125 students! There is lots of space and we build in as much hands-on activities and old-fashioned games as possible. We only allow one booking per day, so your school/class will have our full attention. Contact the museum to discuss how this may be your perfect, low-stress, class trip.

THIS SEPTEMBER, come and join us for an exciting full-day, multi-school event that gives students a chance to explore the War of 1812 through a series of real life scenarios and demonstrations. Fall in line with garrisoned British troops and get a hands-on account on what it takes to be a soldier with the King’s Army. Watch a 19th century cannon crew fire the gun. Feel what it is like to wear a uniform. Through active participation in several stations throughout the museum, students will make a personal connection with the War of 1812 and leave with an understanding of how it affected daily life in Upper Canada.

Blast into the past with your students and come and learn what pioneer life was like in Glengarry. They will visit the many heritage buildings on site which will enable your class to compare between then and now. They will also try their hand at various pioneer chores and be introduced to some important pioneer trades, such as the blacksmith or leatherworker. Students will learn by doing and have the opportunity to see, in some cases, artifacts nearly 200 years old.

Extend the fun! If you want to make a full day of it, or have a large group, we can customize a program to fit your timeframe and incorporate the best of both worlds – the one-room schoolhouse and the rest of the museum! The museum often divides students (and chaperones) into smaller groups and they rotate through a variety of stations, each with their own hands-on activity. Reach out to the museum to discuss your needs and we will do our best to accommodate.
