    During the winter and spring months men from Glengarry would leave their families to work in lumber camps (Ottawa, Michigan, Upper New York) as extra income.  Summer and fall was spent farming and harvesting crops on the homestead. While winter was spent cutting and preparing logs, once spring arrived logs would be sent downriver to sawmills. Any lumber that didn’t stay in Upper Canada would be sent to England.
