From the Dunvegan War of 1812 Planning Committee:
On September 24-26, 2021, the Glengarry Pioneer Museum will be hosting a low-key, no stress, War of 1812 Encampment Weekend. There will be no official program for the weekend or a Battle being planned for the public, but units are encouraged to come up with their own itinerary for what they would like to do for the weekend. The museum will be open to the public that weekend and is offering up its grounds for reenactors to camp, train, demonstrate or just enjoy the space and the opportunity to reunite. Impromptu displays and demonstrations are encouraged to take place while following both safety and COVID-19 guidelines.
All participants must adhere to the rules: be period appropriate. Please wear clothing that was worn during the 1812-1814 period in Upper Canada. No modern camping is permitted on site. All current health guidelines will be followed.
- Bring your own food and beverage, water and ice as there will be no vendors present.
- Firewood will be available. Please use the hardwood for cooking fires only and use the other wood for camp fires.
- You will be asked to sign a waiver form upon arrival.
- You must have valid insurance within your unit or individually if you plan to operate a musket, fire a cannon or pick up a sword .
COVID19 Protocols and Site Safety Rules and Regulations
The museum site has specific COVID-19 safety protocols in place. There will be increased signage to promote distancing. Efforts to distance among reenactors will also be encouraged. Currently, masks must be worn when distancing is not possible. This event will proceed pending Ontario and regional health guidelines and could be subject to change
