The Glengarry Pioneer Museum has funding to hire a winter intern to work from October 20th, 2025 to March 20th, 2026.

Job Description:

Position: Collections Assistant
No. of Positions to Fill: 1
Duration: 19 Weeks
Start Date: October 20, 2025 to March 20, 2026
Wage: $18.70/hour

Job Description:
At the start of employment, the intern will assist staff and volunteers in closing the museum for the winter season by packing and relocating more delicate artifacts for return to storage. Once there, they will work with the Curator to appropriately access, clean and rehouse the artifacts in proper boxes, folders, rolled storage, etc. Under the guidance and supervision of the Curator/Administrator, the Collections Assistant will then help the museum increase its capacity to catalog a backlog of artifacts in storage and share interesting finds on social media.

Qualifications:
Related Post Secondary diploma or degree, preferred;
Interest in History, Social Sciences, Museum Studies, Administration, Photography, preferred;
Written and oral fluency in English;
Strong interpersonal communication skills;
Demonstrated ability to work in group environments and possesses strong team player attributes.
Physically able to lift and handle different types of artifacts;
Ability to accept and learn from feedback;
Demonstrated initiative and responsibility;
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and social platforms;
Commitment to learning and following a work plan;

To fulfil the employment requirements for funding, the individual must be under the age of 30 years at the start of employment and be unemployed or underemployed and a recent graduate within the past six months.

This position is funded in part through the Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage program, and all applicants must be registered in the YCW candidate pool and meet the current YCW-BCH eligibility criteria. An individual may be eligible for an internship if they:
• are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible);
• are legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);
• are between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment; and
• are a college or university graduate (certificate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate).
Note: Priority will be given to graduates that have not previously participated in YCW internship programs and that are unemployed or underemployed.
